Adrenal Glands

Adrenal Glands | A pair of endocrine glands located above the kidneys. Responsible for secreting several important hormones, e.g. adrenaline, oestrogens. Also know as the suprarenal glands due to the location. It is the inner portion of the adrenals (the medulla) that contains chromatin tissue and secretes adrenaline and noradrenaline. The outer cortex of the glands secrets small amounts of sex hormones, i.e. androgens and oestrogens, in addition to different kinds of corticosteroids.
