Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis | Abnormal immune response to a foreign antigen in which affected tissues release histamine causing local or systemic ‘attack’. Anaphylaxis may result due to insect bites, stings, administration of drugs (i.e. penicillin), or ingestion of foods (such as peanuts) to name but a few examples. The reaction may be generalised or more severe resulting in difficult breathing, drop in blood pressure, heart failure or even death.
